We’ve all been there. You’re sitting on the couch, staring at a task you need to do, and your brain just… stops working. You feel a wave of resistance, so you pick up your phone, and suddenly it’s three hours later, and you’re lost in a doom-scroll vortex.
That’s ADHD paralysis. Your brain is starved of dopamine (the neurotransmitter that drives motivation) and it’s desperately looking for a quick hit in the wrong place.
But what if you could hack your dopamine?
My “Dopamine Menu” pin series has gone viral because it works. It’s a way to consciously decide how you will get that dopamine hit, in a healthy and productive way.
If you haven’t seen it, check it out here:

But here’s the secret: knowing what to do is one thing. Having the right tools to do it is another.
That’s why I created this Dopamine Menu Toolkit. I’ve sourced the exact items I use to fill my own “courses” and get my focus back.
Category 1: Quick Snacks (Micro-Dopamine Hits)
These are 5-minute activities to reset your brain. The goal is to make them so easy you can’t say no.
- Walk + Water: A 5-minute walk is great, but combine it with deep hydration. This is my go-to “snack.” Keep a water bottle at your desk that you actually love to drink from.
- Tiny Tidy + Sensory Reset: A tiny tidy can feel overwhelming. Reset your sensory system first. My trick is a calming mist and noise-canceling earbuds to create a “bubble.”
- Tool 1 (Aromatherapy): UpNature Lavender Essential Oil Pure Roll On – 100% Natural
- Tool 2 (Headphones): Soundcore P30i by Anker Noise Cancelling Earbuds
Category 2: Main Courses (The Heavy Lifters)
These are your actual tasks. The key is breaking them down.
- Timer Sprint: The ADHD brain loves urgency. Set a visual timer for 10 or 15 minutes. Race against it. It works miracles for starting tasks.
- Brain Dump & Organizer: When your brain is chaos, dump it all out. Use a physical notebook. Not your phone. The tactile feeling helps.
Category 3: Side Dishes (Passive Joy)
Use these to recover or while doing boring tasks (like laundry).
- Favorite Song: Create a specific playlist just for energy. Use quality, over-ear headphones to really feel the bass and drown out distractions.
- Comfort Book or Podcast: Re-reading a favorite book is a great side dish. If you’re a podcast person, get a comfortable bed headband for listening.
Category 4: Desserts (The Reward)
The most important step. Don’t skip it!
- Actually Eat the Small Treat: Not just any treat. A special one you only have as a reward. Make it an experience.
- Sticker Check-off: Yes, we are all 5 years old inside. Checking off a task with a physical sticker is a massive dopamine boost.
